Drain Water Heat Recovery Systems
How it works
The cold water coming into your house runs through a series of copper coils that are tightly wrapped around a copper drain stack. As hot drain water passes through the drain, cold fresh water passes up through the copper coils and heat is transferred, pre-heating the cold water before it gets to the water heater.

Drain water never mixes with the fresh water – it’s simply that heat from the drain water is used to pre-heat the incoming water so the water heater has less work to do. Warmer water going into the water tank requires less energy to heat, so energy costs go down.
